Human skeletal remains discovered in Houma wooded area

HOUMA, La. — The Terrebonne Parish Sheriff’s Office is investigating after human skeletal remains were discovered in a wooded area near the intersection of Alma Street and Richard Drive, Sheriff Tim Soignet said.

Deputies responded to reports and confirmed the remains belonged to a deceased person. Detectives and crime-scene investigators were summoned to the scene to begin a formal inquiry. Authorities have not released information about the individual’s identity or a cause of death.

“Our detectives have continued to work this investigation steadily since the discovery,” Sheriff Tim Soignet said. “This is a certainly unique and complex case, but I have confidence that our team will do what is necessary to uncover the facts and circumstances surrounding this incident.”

Investigators ask anyone with information, or anyone who may have been in the area recently, to contact the Terrebonne Parish Sheriff’s Office. The investigation remains active.
