The Rucker family says their five-year-old was inappropriately touched at Grand Oaks Elementary in Tomball, Texas, and that a voicemail from Principal Heather Myers — posted to TikTok — appeared to mock their concerns. The recording, which captured Myers saying “Her parents are crazy and my sympathetic voice kind of goes away,” drew more than 2.2 million views. Tomball ISD placed Myers on administrative leave, launched a same-day investigation, and increased law-enforcement presence; the family has withdrawn their child and sought counseling.

Parents Molly and Pablo Rucker reported that their five-year-old daughter was inappropriately touched by another student at Grand Oaks Elementary in Tomball, Texas, on Sept. 25. When the family sought answers from school leaders, they shared a voicemail from Principal Heather Myers that they say undermined their concerns and intensified their distrust of the campus administration.

What the Voicemail Revealed

The voicemail, which Pablo Rucker posted to TikTok, captured Myers scheduling a Title IX meeting with a coordinator. After what appeared to be the formal portion of the call, the recording continued and the parents heard Myers say,

“Her parents are crazy and my sympathetic voice kind of goes away,”
followed by laughter from Myers and another staff member. The clip drew widespread attention and raised questions about how the school handled the original allegation.

Family Reaction and Response

Molly Rucker said she was grateful she had taught her daughter about body boundaries, adding that the voicemail made it difficult to trust teachers and district procedures. Pablo said he was heartbroken that his child confided in school staff and questioned whether the campus leadership would keep students safe under the current administration. The Ruckers subsequently withdrew their daughter from Grand Oaks and arranged counseling services; they say they will not return her while the current administration remains in place.

District Actions

Following the viral post — which drew more than 2.2 million views — Tomball Independent School District placed Principal Heather Myers on administrative leave on Sept. 28. The district described the principal's remarks as "unprofessional" and said they "do not reflect the professional standards we expect of our staff." Tomball ISD also said the campus launched an investigation the same day the allegations were reviewed and that procedures were followed in accordance with district policy.

The district announced that routine school operations would continue during Myers' absence and that the Precinct 4 Constables Department would increase its presence "as additional reassurance to our community." At a Title IX meeting on Sept. 29, community representatives joined the Ruckers in urging the district to review investigative practices and improve student-safety procedures. An associate superintendent reportedly apologized to the family on the district's behalf.

Background

Myers has about 16 years of experience in education and began serving as principal at Grand Oaks Elementary this school year. She previously served as principal at Wayne C. Schultz Junior High.
