The world's tallest wind turbine, developed by Gicon in Schipkau, Brandenburg, has reached its full height of 365 metres and will begin commercial operation in November. Its hub sits at 300 metres, and the rotor tips extend to 365 metres — three metres shy of Berlin's TV tower. Commissioned by the Federal Agency for Disruptive Innovation, the turbine is built to harness stronger high-altitude winds and could produce roughly twice the energy of comparable machines, potentially powering up to 7,500 households.

Developer Gicon announced on Monday that the world's tallest wind turbine has reached its final height of 365 metres in Schipkau, in the eastern German state of Brandenburg.

The installation has a hub height of 300 metres, with its rotor tips reaching 365 metres — just three metres shorter than Berlin's 368-metre television tower, Germany's tallest structure. Germany's Wind Energy Association recognizes the machine as the tallest wind turbine in the world.

Commissioned by Germany's Federal Agency for Disruptive Innovation, the turbine is designed to exploit the stronger, more consistent winds available at higher altitudes. Gicon says the unit could generate roughly twice the energy of a conventional turbine with the same rotor diameter, thanks to those higher-altitude wind conditions.

Located in the former Lusatia coal-mining region, the project is expected to produce enough electricity to supply up to 7,500 households, contributing to the area's transition away from fossil fuels.

Finishing work was delayed in recent days by strong wind gusts, which forced the company to postpone announcing the world record. The turbine is scheduled to begin commercial operation in November.

The previous record for a commercially produced wind turbine was a 285-metre installation in Bavaria.
