Ashley Flynn, 37, was discovered with gunshot wounds in the early hours of February 16 and was pronounced dead at the scene. Caleb, 40, who appeared on season 12 of American Idol in 2013 but did not reach the live rounds, placed a 911 call after finding his wife unresponsive around 2:30 a.m. He told dispatchers that “somebody broke into my home and killed my wife. Please, please hurry. … She's got three shots to her and blood everywhere.”
Investigation and Charges
Initial reports noted apparent signs of forced entry and that the couple’s two young daughters — ages 10 and 12 — were inside the home at the time but were asleep and did not wake. Investigators later identified inconsistencies at the scene. An affidavit filed in Miami County Municipal Court reports that authorities were told the firearm may have been taken from Caleb’s 2024 Ford pickup and that a large refrigerator was blocking a garage side door, a detail investigators said would have required being moved to open the door.
Police allege that parts of the scene were staged and that Caleb intentionally misled investigators. On February 19, three days after Ashley’s death, Caleb was arrested and has been held at the Miami County Jail on a $3.5 million bond. In March, prosecutors secured an indictment charging him with 11 counts, including one count of aggravated murder, three counts of murder, two counts of felonious assault, three counts of tampering with evidence and two misdemeanor counts of intimidation of an attorney, victim or witness.

Victim, Family And Community
Ashley Flynn was born on February 28, 1988. She graduated from Tipp City High School in 2006 and from Lee University in 2010, where she met Caleb; they married in 2010 and had two daughters. Professionally, Ashley coached volleyball at Tippecanoe Middle School, served as a substitute teacher and previously worked as a full-time teacher. She also taught with LifeWise Academy and volunteered at Christian Life Center. Her obituary described her as a warm and encouraging presence in her community.
Ashley’s family released a statement saying they believe the arrest was made carefully and that, after consulting with local and federal authorities, they trust the process is being handled appropriately.
What To Expect In Court
After multiple scheduling changes, jury selection is scheduled to begin Thursday, September 17. On September 14, Judge Jeannine Pratt ruled that media may photograph and videotape witnesses while testifying, except for the Flynn children. Both daughters are expected to testify but will do so via audio-only testimony. Other family members expected to appear include Ashley’s father, mother, sister and brother-in-law.
