A Florida man has been arrested after surveillance footage allegedly showed him seizing a woman off the street and driving away with her in his truck on May 31 in Winter Park, Florida.
What Happened
According to an Orange County arrest-warrant affidavit obtained by PEOPLE, 44-year-old Matthew Hunt Seaberg reportedly drove past a woman outside a Wawa convenience store as she spoke with someone. The affidavit alleges that Seaberg then stopped his vehicle, exited, grabbed the woman "from behind and lifted her by the waist onto his right shoulder," and placed her in the front passenger seat.
Surveillance footage allegedly shows a figure inside the truck "flailing and attempting to exit the vehicle." A nearby witness, later identified as a sheriff's deputy, intervened and told investigators he could hear the woman screaming, "Stop, please. You are hurting me," as he tried to help her exit the vehicle. The affidavit says Seaberg then drove off and the deputy pursued him.
Investigation and Arrest
Authorities say they tracked the vehicle using a license plate number captured on surveillance video. Officers attempted to check on the woman's welfare after locating the truck, but court records reviewed by PEOPLE indicate there was no immediate contact with the alleged victim and her condition was not detailed.
Days later, on a warrant issued by Orange County, Seaberg was arrested outside a high school in Orlando. He has been charged with kidnapping, tampering with a victim and battery and has pleaded not guilty.
Allegations Not Proven: Seaberg is presumed innocent unless proven guilty in a court of law.
