A Florida man was arrested after police say they discovered a concealed tracking device inside the driver-side mirror housing of his ex-girlfriend’s Jeep while she had an active injunction for protection.
Christopher Concepcion, 48, was taken into custody on Sept. 7 in Cape Coral after detectives located and seized a small black tracker, according to court records cited by Gulf Coast News Now.
Allegations and Timeline
The first alert occurred on Sept. 3 when the woman’s daughter was driving the Jeep and received a phone warning that an unknown tracking device appeared to be traveling with the vehicle. While the daughter was at work that day, the woman says Concepcion sent multiple text messages asking why she had been at a Cape Coral school and claimed he could see the vehicle; he also allegedly mentioned the daughter’s wallet was inside.
The woman received another tracker alert on Sept. 6 as she was leaving the courthouse. She later told dispatchers in a 911 call that she had found a tracker attached to the Jeep. In interviews described in court documents, the woman said Concepcion called her, threatened to kill her, and said he had placed the device so he could find her if she left.
"I found a tracker on my vehicle," the woman told a 911 dispatcher, according to audio released by the station. She said the discovery left her devastated and fearful for her life.
Police Findings and Charges
Investigators searched Concepcion’s cellphone and reported finding a link between the tracking device and his Google account, with the device assigned to a vehicle. Concepcion denied installing the tracker or stalking the woman, telling police he could identify the bright-red Jeep by its color.
He has been charged with invading privacy by installing or using a tracking device to commit a dangerous crime. His next appearance in Lee County court is scheduled for Oct. 12. As with all criminal matters, Concepcion is presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
