The FBI confirmed on April 29 that the body recovered in coastal Georgia is that of 41-year-old commercial truck driver Alejandro Jacomino Gonzalez. Gonzalez vanished on April 16 while transporting multiple vehicles from the Port of Brunswick, Ga., to Miami. Federal investigators from the FBI's Tampa and Atlanta divisions are leading the probe.
Timeline: According to an FBI bulletin, Gonzalez stopped to rest at the Brevard County rest area in Grant-Valkaria, Florida, and remained there for several hours before resuming his trip south. GPS data from his tractor-trailer shows the rig continued one exit south and then turned back north toward Jacksonville. Shortly after that movement, Gonzalez became unreachable and the truck was reported missing.
Investigators located the truck in Port Wentworth, Georgia, on April 17, but Gonzalez was not in the cab. Several vehicles that had been on the hauler were also absent at that time. The FBI says three of the missing vehicles have since been recovered in Florida. The bureau has not released the exact location or timing of when Gonzalez's body was found.
What Authorities Are Seeking
The FBI asked the public for photos and video from anyone who may have been in or around the Brevard County Rest Area between 1:00 a.m. and 8:00 a.m. local time on April 17. Officials said they were "specifically focusing on the southern portion of the rest area near the ramp that enters back onto I-95 South."
Identification Details
Gonzalez, who was born in Cuba, was described by the FBI as having a full sleeve tattoo on his left arm, additional ink on his lower right arm, and the name "Elisia" tattooed on his right forearm.
