Shocking Video: EF-2 Tornado Forms Over Three Rivers, Michigan, Hurling Debris Near Shopping Plaza

A dramatic video captured in Three Rivers, Michigan, shows a tornado rapidly forming on March 6 and sending debris across a nearby shopping plaza as a line of powerful storms moved through the state.

Kainan Hicks recorded the footage after tornado sirens sounded while he was at work. Curious about the alerts, he stepped outside and, as he returned, witnessed the storm intensify and a tornado take shape in the distance. The clip, shared via ViralHog, captures the rotating wall cloud and loose materials being whipped through the air toward local businesses.

'I was at work and heard sirens go off, stepped outside, went next door to the other work, talked to the other people,' Hicks says in the footage. 'And when I came back, I started seeing the tornado actually form way off in the distance. That's when everything kind of swept through.'

The tornado was one of several that struck southwestern Michigan during the outbreak. Investigators later rated the tornado visible in Hicks' video as an EF-2, with estimated winds of 111 to 135 miles per hour — powerful enough to cause significant structural damage and loft debris long distances.

In response to widespread storm damage, Michigan Gov. Gretchen Whitmer activated the state Emergency Operations Center to coordinate response and recovery efforts. Search-and-rescue teams were deployed to affected communities as officials assessed impacts and worked to assist residents and businesses hit by the storms.
