10-Year-Old Arrested After Alleged Intentional Shooting Leaves 9-Year-Old Hospitalized in Alexandria, Louisiana

A 9-year-old boy identified as Tre’Michael was critically wounded on Dec. 6 in Alexandria, Louisiana, after police say a 10-year-old friend shot him while the children were together, authorities and the family said.
The Alexandria Police Department (APD) initially treated the incident as an accident but later reclassified it as intentional following further investigation, local station KALB reported. The older child was arrested and is facing suspected charges related to the shooting.
Victim's Condition and Family Response
Tre’Michael was transported to a hospital with life-threatening injuries. A family member who later set up a GoFundMe described the extent of his injuries: he reportedly lost his right kidney, suffered the loss of half of his left lung, and sustained severe damage to his intestines from the bullet.
'Mama, Mama, he shot me on purpose,' Tre’Michael is quoted as saying to his mother, Lakisha Ledguies, after he was able to speak following removal of a breathing tube, according to KALB. Ledguies also confirmed her son is 9 years old; an APD news release had described him as 8.
Investigation and Charges
Authorities arrested the 10-year-old on suspicion of aggravated second-degree battery and juvenile in possession of a handgun. His name has not been released because he is a juvenile. Police have not publicly explained how the weapon was obtained, and it is unclear whether any other individuals will be charged in connection with the shooting.
The APD had not immediately responded to requests for updated comment as of Jan. 11. Contact information for Tre’Michael’s mother was not publicly available at that time.
Community Support
A family member established a GoFundMe to help cover medical and recovery expenses, calling Tre’Michael’s recovery an 'unimaginable journey' and expressing deep gratitude for the community's prayers and support. The fundraiser's description and family statements emphasize the severity of his injuries and the family's need for assistance during his recovery.
Authorities continue to investigate the circumstances surrounding the shooting. As the case involves juveniles, some details are being withheld from the public.
