LA 2028 Ticket Registration Opens

With the Winter Olympics in Milan starting next month, organizers are already looking ahead to Los Angeles 2028. Beginning today, fans can register for a random drawing that gives many people a chance to buy reasonably priced Summer Games tickets.

Minnesota Sues Over Federal Immigration Operation

A hearing is scheduled today in a lawsuit filed by the state of Minnesota and the Twin Cities challenging a recent federal immigration enforcement operation they call a "federal invasion." The case follows the resignation of several federal prosecutors in Minnesota, who left amid reported pressure from the Trump administration over how to handle the investigation into last week’s fatal shooting of a mother of three by an ICE agent. Illinois has filed a separate suit alleging unlawful and unconstitutional immigration enforcement; legal analysts say both cases face significant hurdles in federal court.

Imminent Execution Possible for Detained Iranian Protester

The U.S. State Department and a family member say an Iranian protester detained on Thursday may be executed as soon as today — a development likely to increase international condemnation of Tehran’s crackdown on dissent. President Donald Trump warned Iran against executing demonstrators, said the U.S. would take "strong action" if it occurs, and urged protesters to continue demonstrating while asserting that "help is on its way." A U.S.-based rights group reports more than 2,400 protesters killed and at least 18,000 arrested since mass demonstrations began last month.

Clintons Decline to Testify in House Epstein Probe

Bill and Hillary Clinton declined to appear before the House Oversight Committee on Tuesday in connection with its investigation into Jeffrey Epstein, despite threats of contempt from Republican lawmakers. In a letter to Committee Chairman James Comer, the Clintons' lawyers called the subpoenas invalid and politically motivated. The Justice Department has released thousands of Epstein-related documents recently, including previously unseen photos of Bill Clinton with Epstein; a spokesperson for Clinton has said he severed ties with Epstein before the 2019 arrest and was unaware of his crimes.

Mass Assault on Ukraine Cuts Power in Kyiv

Hundreds of thousands of households in Kyiv were left without power after Russia launched another major overnight aerial assault. Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky said more than 300 drones, along with ballistic and cruise missiles, struck eight regions. Since the invasion began in 2022, Russian strikes have repeatedly targeted energy infrastructure to disrupt heating and electricity during cold months. A recent United Nations report said Russian forces killed more than 2,500 Ukrainian civilians in 2025, including many far from the front lines.

Thailand Train Derailment After Crane Collapse Kills Dozens

At least 32 people were killed and dozens more injured after a construction crane fell onto a moving train in northeastern Thailand, causing a derailment. The train was approximately three hours into its journey from Bangkok to Ubon Ratchathani province when it was struck. Thailand’s prime minister expressed condolences and said authorities are investigating. Images from the scene show a broken crane on the tracks and twisted carriages as rescue teams search through debris.

Other Notable Developments
