Daryl Berman, 71, is on trial after her husband, 84‑year‑old David Berman, died from knife injuries at their home in Bury on March 13. The death was first treated as accidental until a doctor raised concerns, prompting further examination. At trial, jurors were shown a calendar entry for March 13 that read "Bye bye" with kisses and a heart; Daryl admitted writing it but denies murder, saying David fell on a knife. The couple have been described in court as loving, with no history of violence; the trial continues.

Daryl Berman, 71, has pleaded not guilty to the alleged murder of her 84‑year‑old husband, David Berman, who died at the couple's home in Bury, near Manchester, on March 13.

Prosecutors say David sustained fatal knife injuries. The death was originally treated as accidental, but a doctor raised concerns about the nature of his wounds and an expert examination was later sought, according to reporting by the Manchester Evening News and The Bury Times.

The court heard this week that Daryl, described by local reporting as a former nurse, was charged with murder in May. She denies the allegation and says her husband fell onto a knife in the kitchen.

Calendar Entry Draws Attention

Jurors were told the couple's household calendar showed the date March 13 marked with the words "Bye bye" alongside two kisses and a drawn heart. When asked about the entry, Daryl admitted writing it and told the court she often wrote similar notes at the end of the day. "I put it on at the end of the day when everyone had gone and I was ready to go to bed," she said, according to The Bury Times.

Testimony On Scene And Health

Daryl testified that she heard a fall and ran to the kitchen to find David face down and making a "gurgling noise." She told jurors that David had become forgetful in recent months and "was just not coping that well," the court heard.

Witnesses and evidence presented so far described the couple as "loving and mutually supportive," with no prior involvement with law enforcement or history of domestic violence.

The trial is ongoing and more evidence and testimony are expected in the coming days.
