The Powerball jackpot rose to an estimated $1.25 billion after Monday’s drawing produced no grand-prize winner. Two tickets sold in Arizona and California matched the five white balls to win $1 million each, while dozens of other tickets won secondary prizes. This is the second billion-dollar Powerball jackpot this year and the 12th in five years. Winners can choose an annuity (paid over 29 years) or a smaller lump-sum cash payout; lump-sum estimates for the next drawing were about $572.1 million.

The Powerball jackpot climbed to an estimated $1.25 billion after Monday night’s drawing produced no grand-prize winner.

The numbers drawn Monday were 23, 35, 59, 63, 68 and the red Powerball 2. The Power Play multiplier for the drawing was 4.

Winners and Payouts

Although the jackpot went unclaimed, two tickets — one sold in Arizona and one sold in California — matched all five white balls and each won a $1 million prize. Powerball also reported 43 tickets won $50,000 and 14 tickets won $200,000 in the same drawing.

How Big Is This Jackpot?

This is the second Powerball jackpot this year to reach at least $1 billion, and the 12th Powerball prize to top $1 billion in the past five years. The biggest jackpot so far this year was in September — a record $1.787 billion before taxes — which was split by two winners from Missouri and Texas. Those winners opted for a lump-sum payment of about $410 million each before taxes.

Annuity vs. Lump Sum

Lotteries advertise the jackpot as an annuity total — a series of payments (30 escalating installments paid over 29 years) that include interest. The advertised annuity can differ by source and timing, so some reports cited a figure near $1.1 billion while others reported the advertised jackpot at $1.25 billion. Alternatively, winners may select a one-time lump-sum cash payout, which is substantially smaller; the lump-sum estimate for the next drawing was approximately $572.1 million at the time of reporting.

“While it’s exciting to see the jackpot climb to this level, please remember to play responsibly,” said Matt Strawn, Iowa Lottery CEO and Powerball Product Group Chair. “A single $2 ticket gives you a chance to win while also supporting good causes in your community.”

Next Drawing and Odds

The next Powerball drawing is scheduled for Wednesday at 10:59 p.m. ET. The odds of winning the jackpot remain 1 in 292.2 million.
