The University of Michigan staffer who reported an "intimate relationship" with head coach Sherrone Moore told police she filed a formal complaint on Dec. 10 and went home to pack before leaving town. Detective Jessica Welker testified Moore allegedly entered the apartment without permission, grabbed two knives and said, "You ruined my life," before threatening self-harm and fleeing. Moore was arrested about an hour later and arraigned on Dec. 12 on one felony (third-degree home invasion) and two misdemeanors (stalking and breaking and entering). He was fired the day the complaint was filed and released on GPS monitoring and mental-health conditions; he denies assault and is due back in court on Jan. 22, 2026.

The University of Michigan staffer who reported an "intimate relationship" with head football coach Sherrone Moore told police she filed a formal complaint on Dec. 10 and returned to her apartment to pack before leaving town. According to testimony from Pittsfield Township Detective Jessica Welker, Moore allegedly entered the residence without permission, grabbed two knives and repeatedly told the staffer, "You ruined my life," before threatening self-harm and fleeing the scene.

Allegations and Police Testimony

Det. Jessica Welker testified during a complaint authorization hearing that the staffer told investigators she had just left the University after filing the complaint and had gone back to her apartment to collect her belongings. As she carried items upstairs, she heard "footsteps outside" and rushed to lock the door. By the time she reached the front door, the staffer said, Moore had entered the apartment and refused to leave.

"You ruined my life. You ruined my life," Moore allegedly said as he approached while holding two knives, the detective testified.

The staffer said she managed to get her lawyer on the phone. According to Welker, Moore then allegedly threatened to harm himself before leaving the apartment. The staffer's attorney contacted 911, and officers located and arrested Moore about an hour later.

Charges, University Response and Contract Impact

Moore, 39, was fired by the University of Michigan the same day the complaint was filed. The university said he violated a 2021 policy that prohibits supervisors from initiating relationships with supervisees and requires disclosure so a management plan can be implemented to avoid abuses of power.

On Dec. 12, Moore was arraigned on one felony count of third-degree home invasion and two misdemeanors—stalking and breaking and entering. He pleaded not charged with assault; Moore has denied ever assaulting or threatening the staffer, according to court records.

The termination also removes Moore from his coaching position and effectively ends the $12.3 million in guaranteed salary remaining on his contract over the next three years.

Release Conditions and Next Steps

Moore posted bail and was released under conditions that include wearing a GPS tether, continuing mental-health treatment and having no contact with the staffer. He is due back in court on Jan. 22, 2026, for a probable cause hearing.

In law-enforcement interviews cited in the hearing transcript, both the staffer and Moore acknowledged they had been in an "intimate relationship," which Moore said lasted "approximately two years." Moore is married and has three young daughters. Neither the staffer's lawyer nor Moore's attorney responded to requests for comment.
