University of Michigan President Domenico Grasso said the school found "credible" evidence that former coach Sherrone Moore, 39, engaged in an inappropriate relationship with a staff member; Moore was fired with cause on Dec. 10. Hours later he was detained by local police and transferred to Pittsfield Township authorities. A 911 call obtained by PEOPLE reported a woman alleging months of stalking and an attack at an address on the 3000 block of Ann Arbor Saline Road. Prosecutors said charging decisions were not expected immediately as the investigation remains active and an arraignment was scheduled for Dec. 12.
Michigan President Calls Ex-Coach Sherrone Moore’s Alleged Staff Relationship a “Painful” Breach of Trust

University of Michigan President Domenico Grasso said the university has "no tolerance" after investigators found what the school described as "credible" evidence that former football coach Sherrone Moore, 39, engaged in an inappropriate relationship with a staff member. Moore was fired with cause by the university on Wednesday, Dec. 10, following the internal review.
In a letter addressed to Michigan students and colleagues, Grasso wrote that the conduct violated university policy and represented a breach of trust that is "painful for many in our community, first and foremost, the individuals directly involved in this situation."
"There is absolutely no tolerance for this conduct at the University of Michigan," Grasso said, emphasizing the institution’s commitment to a campus culture grounded in respect, integrity and accountability. The university said its investigation remains ongoing.
Hours after the university announced Moore’s termination, local law enforcement detained him. The City of Saline Police Department initially took Moore into custody and later transferred him to the Pittsfield Township Police Department; he was held at the Washtenaw County Jail.
PEOPLE obtained a 911 recording made minutes before Moore’s detention. In the audio — recorded at about 4:14 p.m. on Dec. 10 — an unidentified caller allegedly told dispatchers she had been stalked for months and that a male was at the residence and attacking her. The dispatcher referenced an address on the 3000 block of Ann Arbor Saline Road, which police have said is connected to the incident. Moore’s name is not mentioned on the tape, and police did not name him in early statements.
Pittsfield Township police said the department responded to an "alleged assault" on Dec. 10 and that a suspect had been taken into custody. Authorities later indicated the suspect was scheduled for an arraignment on Friday, Dec. 12, but prosecutors told reporters that charging decisions were not expected immediately because the law enforcement investigation was still active.
The Washtenaw County Prosecutor’s Office told ESPN reporter Dan Wetzel that the matter remained under active investigation and that it did not expect to issue charging decisions or proceed with an arraignment on Thursday. "Mr. Moore remains in custody at the Washtenaw County Jail," the office said.
University and law enforcement officials have provided only limited public details as both the university's internal inquiry and the criminal investigation continue. The university has reiterated its stance that relationships that violate policy or create conflicts of interest will be addressed swiftly.
