Sherrone Moore, the recently fired University of Michigan head football coach, was released from the Washtenaw Corrections Division on Friday, Dec. 12, after posting $25,000 bail, jail records show. He was booked on the evening of Dec. 10 and held roughly 43 hours before his release at 3:39 p.m.
Arraignment And Charges
Moore appeared in court by Zoom two hours before his release and was arraigned on one felony count of third-degree home invasion and two misdemeanor counts — stalking and breaking and entering. Prosecutors say the home invasion charge carries up to five years in prison if Moore is convicted.
Allegations From Prosecutor
Prosecutor Kati Rezmierski told the court that Moore went to the home of a woman with whom he had an alleged "inappropriate relationship" after learning he had been fired by University of Michigan Athletic Director Warde Manuel. The woman had reportedly ended the relationship earlier in the week and cooperated with the university's inquiry.
According to the prosecutor, Moore allegedly forced his way into the woman’s home, grabbed multiple butter knives and a pair of scissors, and made threatening statements in her presence. Rezmierski quoted Moore as saying, "I'm gonna kill myself! I'm gonna make you watch! My blood is on your hands! You ruined my life." The prosecutor said Moore left after the woman said she would contact her lawyers and that he was arrested about an hour later when his car was observed in a church parking lot.

Conditions Of Release
Washtenaw County Magistrate Judge Odetalla Odetalla released Moore on bail with several conditions: he must wear a GPS tether, continue receiving mental health treatment, and have no contact with the named victim. The judge emphasized that "no calling, no writing, no video chatting, no texting, no e-mailing, or any other form of contact" is permitted.
Legal And Employment Status
Moore's attorney, Joseph Simon, declined to comment on the release. Moore is not currently charged with assault. The university fired him for cause on the same day of his arrest, which, according to reports, voids roughly $12.3 million in guaranteed contract compensation over the next three years; it remains unclear whether Moore will challenge the termination.
Moore appeared at arraignment wearing a white prison uniform. Prosecutors argued against his release, saying the totality of his behavior was "highly threatening and highly intimidating," and that the alleged victim had been "terrorized."
Moore's next scheduled court appearance is a probable cause hearing on Jan. 22, 2026.
