Donald Trump said on Dec. 9 in Mount Pocono that he has heard President Joe Biden used an autopen to sign appointments of some Democratic members of the Federal Reserve's Board of Governors. Trump suggested he might bring a legal challenge to contest the validity of those appointments. The claim was reported by Reuters; no evidence was presented during his remarks, and the allegation raises possible legal and procedural questions about how Fed board seats are finalized.

MOUNT POCONO, Pennsylvania, Dec. 9 (Reuters) - Former U.S. President Donald Trump told reporters he has heard that President Joe Biden used an autopen to sign the appointments of some Democratic members of the Federal Reserve's Board of Governors. Trump said he may pursue a formal legal challenge to the validity of those appointments.

An autopen is a mechanical device that reproduces a person's signature; its use for signing official documents can be routine but also raises questions about authentication and the legal formalities required for certain nominations and appointments. Trump did not present evidence during his remarks, and Reuters reported his comments from Mount Pocono.

The allegation, if pursued, could prompt legal scrutiny over whether the signatures meet statutory or constitutional requirements for appointing Fed governors. Any challenge would likely focus on statutes governing presidential actions, the Federal Reserve appointment process and relevant precedents on the use of automated signature devices.

Reuters reporters Nandita Bose and Jarrett Renshaw reported the remarks; the article was edited by Himani Sarkar.
