President Donald Trump reportedly snapped during a TIME interview, accusing the magazine of asking "all negative" questions and launching into a censored expletive-filled tirade. The exchange began after a question about Sen. Mitch McConnell's health and expanded to complaints about pardons, White House renovations and coverage of Venezuela. TIME's published feature did not mention the confrontation; the blowup is visible only in the transcript that later surfaced.
Trump Snaps During TIME Interview, Accuses Reporter of 'All Negative' Questions — Blowup Only Appears in Transcript

President Donald Trump reportedly erupted during a recent sit-down with TIME magazine, accusing the outlet of asking only negative questions and launching into an expletive-filled complaint that did not make TIME's published story but appears in the interview transcript.
What Sparked the Exchange
The confrontation began when Trump was asked whether Sen. Mitch McConnell (R-Ky.) should step down amid concerns about his declining health. Rather than directly address McConnell, Trump pivoted to criticizing the interview itself, according to a HuffPost report and a transcript of the conversation.
"You haven't asked me one f***ing positive question," Trump told the reporter. "All of this. What about this? What about that? What about that? What about this? All negative. Why are you devoting all this time to the White House?"
At points, Trump appeared to be answering an earlier question about potential pardons for members of his administration. He contrasted his position with what he described as former President Joe Biden's approach to pardons, accusing the media of applying a double standard.
"So that's just — well, Sleepy Joe gave pardons to everybody," Trump said. "He gave them to Fauci. He gave them to this. But you mean I'm not allowed to give them, but Sleepy Joe's allowed to give them? This ain't gonna be much of a story."
Trump then defended renovations to the White House and argued he deserved credit for the work. He also complained that the interviewer had not asked about Venezuela, saying, "I'm doing very well with another war that we already won, Venezuela. Do you notice you haven't asked me a question about Venezuela?" When the reporter noted Venezuela had been discussed earlier, Trump brushed the correction aside and criticized coverage as "fake news," while expressing respect for TIME owner Marc Benioff.
TIME later published a feature by Eric Cortellessa titled "What Trump Has Built," which made no reference to the on-camera confrontation. The heated exchange surfaced only after the interview transcript was released.
Context and Takeaway
The episode illustrates how on-camera interviews can diverge from published features when outlets edit for focus and tone. It also highlights how moments captured in transcripts can draw attention to interactions omitted from published pieces.
