Case Details
Prosecutors say the Getmans — Darryl, 83, and Sharon, 80 — were discovered dead inside their residence on New Year’s Eve. Authorities allege Williams fled the scene in the couple’s green Kia Soul and took jewelry and paintings before being arrested in Savannah, Georgia, on Jan. 2, 2023.
Local reporting and court documents say Williams asked the night before the killings if she could use the Getmans’ shower and charge her phone. An affidavit obtained by the Orlando Sentinel states that, when arrested, Williams told police she was homeless and living out of the Getmans’ car.
Trial, Verdict and Sentencing Plans
During the trial, defense attorneys argued Williams was experiencing psychosis at the time of the killings. After roughly 30 minutes of jury deliberation, jurors returned guilty verdicts on both counts of first-degree murder.
Prosecutors have indicated they will seek the death penalty. The Office of the State Attorney for Florida’s Fifth Judicial Circuit credited thorough investigative work and forensic analysis for helping build the case against Williams.

Darryl and Sharon Getman were retirees living in a Mount Dora retirement community. Their deaths on Dec. 31, 2022, shocked neighbors and drew intense investigative attention from local and regional law enforcement.
The case will move into the sentencing phase, where prosecutors plan to pursue the death penalty and the defense may present further mitigation evidence.
