A Las Vegas grandmother says she awoke in the middle of the night to find her grandson violently attacking his girlfriend inside their Mountain Valley Drive home. Authorities say 42-year-old Brandon Tenorio later admitted to the killing and told investigators he had been hearing voices that encouraged the violence.
What Happened
According to police reports, the incident occurred in December 2023 after the grandmother heard a loud thud and went downstairs to investigate. She told officers she found Tenorio striking 36-year-old Kourtney Glover with a hammer while Glover lay on the floor. The grandmother attempted to intervene but was reportedly shoved aside and briefly dragged back into the house before she escaped to a neighbor's home and called 911.
Police Response And Evidence
Las Vegas Metropolitan Police officers arrived at the home at about 8:08 p.m. and say Tenorio complied with arrest procedures. Officers reported that Tenorio emerged with his hands raised, covered in blood, and told them, "I did it. I killed her. She is dead. She is inside." Investigators found Glover deceased at the base of the stairs near the kitchen. A hammer was recovered in a bathroom and three bloody knives were located in the kitchen.
Claims During Questioning
During questioning, Tenorio reportedly said he frequently heard voices; he told police one voice said "it was time to kill or be killed." He also told investigators he received a message through the Signal messaging app instructing him to "kill his grandma." Prosecutors say Tenorio believed Glover was signaling the driver of a gas truck outside as part of a plot targeting him, which helped trigger the attack.
"There is no sentence long enough to restore what he took," said Glover's sister, Ashley Davis, at the sentencing hearing.
Legal Outcome
On Sept. 10, nearly three years after the incident, Tenorio was convicted of first-degree murder. Defense counsel, Special Public Defender Caitlyn McAmis, said significant substance abuse and untreated mental health issues were factors in the tragedy. Prosecutors say Tenorio apologized and accepted responsibility. He was sentenced to 20 years in prison.
