The Pursuit
CHP units spotted a vehicle matching the Kia’s description near Castaic Lake and attempted a traffic stop. The driver refused to stop and fled, reaching speeds up to 85 mph on the northbound 5 Freeway near Castaic and Smokey Bear Road as officers gave pursuit.

At one point the vehicle exited the freeway and continued on surface streets in Castaic before heading north on Lake Hughes Road through the Newhall area. During the chase, the car briefly left the roadway and the driver was seen throwing several objects from the vehicle.

By about 6:15 p.m. the pursuit had moved through more remote sections of Lake Hughes Road, and roughly 30 minutes later it entered Lancaster. Aerial footage captured multiple CHP units trailing the Kia closely as officers coordinated to end the pursuit safely.
How It Ended
Shortly after 7 p.m., officers deployed a spike strip on West Avenue K, which damaged at least two of the Kia's tires and dramatically slowed the vehicle. With mobility reduced, CHP officers executed a PIT maneuver near 20th Street West and West Avenue K, forcing the car to a stop.
Video from the scene showed the driver stepping out of the Kia and surrendering while officers approached with weapons drawn. The suspect was taken into custody at the scene without further incident. Authorities have not immediately released additional details about the shooting investigation or potential charges.
