President Donald Trump invited DoorDash driver Sharon Simmons to the White House on Monday after she delivered two bags of McDonald’s — his preferred fast-food order — and surprised her with a cash tip while promoting his “No Tax on Tips” policy ahead of Tax Day.
Simmons, an Arkansas native nicknamed the “DoorDash Grandma,” handed the bags to the president as reporters gathered. When a journalist asked whether White House staff were generous tippers, Trump interrupted the exchange, reached into his pocket and produced what appeared to be a $100 bill, which he handed to Simmons.
"We've got a great big beautiful but we should call it the great big beautiful tax cut bill because it's a tremendous amount of money and that's overtime."
"Wait," Trump said as he reached into his pocket. "You reminded me."
After accepting the bill, Simmons told reporters the White House staff have been "very" generous with tips.
Policy Context and Numbers
Trump used the moment to tout the One Big Beautiful Bill Act and his administration's signature change he calls "No Tax on Tips." He told Simmons she had received an extra $11,000 because of recent tax changes. According to the Tax Foundation, under the One Big Beautiful Bill Act tip earners may claim up to $25,000 in tax-deductible income from 2025 through 2028.

DoorDash said in a company release that Simmons, a grandmother of 10, has completed more than 14,000 deliveries since she began working for the platform in 2022. The company estimated that Dashers nationwide have saved "hundreds of millions of dollars" since the new tip tax policy took effect.
"Since No Tax on Tips was enacted, we estimate Dashers have saved hundreds of millions of dollars," the DoorDash release said. Max Rettig, DoorDash's global head of public policy, said the moment is a win for millions of Dashers who can now keep more of their earnings when filing taxes.
