A Maryland man has been taken into custody months after authorities say he violently assaulted an infant, throwing the child down a flight of stairs and then out of a window where the child landed in a trashcan, according to investigators.
Investigation and Arrest
Prince George's County authorities say 23-year-old Kevin Morris was arrested last week on multiple felony charges after allegedly evading police for roughly nine months. The alleged assault occurred on June 5, 2025, at a residence in Capitol Heights, Maryland, when officers initially responded to a report of an assault, the sheriff's office said in a statement.
What Law Enforcement Alleges
According to the sheriff's office and charging documents reviewed by People, investigators allege Morris first threw a 1-year-old down an interior stairway, then retrieved the child and barricaded himself in a room. Detectives further allege that Morris subsequently threw the infant through a window; the child landed in a trashcan outside the home.
Charges and Court Status
Online court records list charges against Morris including: First-Degree Attempted Murder; Second-Degree Attempted Murder; First-Degree Assault; Second-Degree Child Abuse; two counts of Second-Degree Assault; and two counts of Reckless Endangerment. The Prince George's County Sheriff's Office additionally mentioned a Second-Degree Murder charge in its public statement, but that charge did not appear in the court records reviewed by People.
Morris is being held without bond and is scheduled to appear for a preliminary hearing later this month. Court records do not indicate whether he has entered a plea. People and local authorities have been contacted for further comment.
