Russian strikes hit a private clinic in Kyiv before dawn, killing a 30-year-old patient and a man in nearby Fastiv, and injuring others. Emergency teams evacuated 26 patients into -8°C conditions as power outages forced backup systems to sustain water and heating. The attack occurred ahead of a Paris summit where partners will press a peace plan Kyiv says is nearly complete. Officials also said Russia launched some 165 drones and at least nine missiles overnight.

Russian forces launched a pre-dawn strike on a private medical clinic in Kyiv early Monday, triggering a blaze that killed a patient and injured several others. Authorities said two people died in the attacks overall: a 30-year-old patient at the clinic and a man in his 70s in nearby Fastiv. Emergency crews evacuated 26 patients from the gutted facility into freezing -8°C temperatures amid local power outages.

Officials reported that the strike ignited a fire at the privately run clinic, leaving at least three people wounded at that site. Images released by emergency services showed rescuers carrying patients on stretchers from the damaged building. Kyiv’s Prime Minister, Yulia Svyrydenko, said on X that medical staff were forced to evacuate the wounded "under fire."

"It was a terrible night for us," Margaryta Maliovana, the clinic's CEO, told AFP. "One person died — a young man, 30 years old — and there were 26 patients in the clinic when the strike occurred."

The Kyiv regional governor said the pre-dawn raid also killed an elderly man in Fastiv. The strikes caused localized power outages; authorities said backup systems were activated to maintain water and heating as temperatures fell below freezing.

The Ukrainian air force reported that Russia launched about 165 drones and at least nine missiles overnight. Emergency services and regional officials continue to assess damage and casualties from the barrage.

Paris Summit And Diplomatic Push

The attack came on the eve of a diplomatic summit in Paris where European and U.S. partners are aiming to advance a plan Kyiv describes as roughly "90 percent" ready to help end the war. Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky said partners would work together this week to ensure Ukraine has the assistance it needs.

Security advisers from 15 countries, along with representatives from NATO and the European Union, met in Kyiv over the weekend to prepare for the summit. A Ukrainian official said the U.S. special envoy joined some discussions virtually.

Wider Context

Diplomatic efforts have accelerated in recent weeks, but Moscow and Kyiv remain deeply divided over territorial issues in any post-war settlement. Moscow, which controls roughly one-fifth of Ukrainian territory, has pressed for full control of parts of the east, while Kyiv has warned that ceding land would only encourage further aggression.

Russia also said it had captured the village of Grabovske in the northeastern Sumy region, a claim Kyiv had previously linked to forced relocations from the area. Separately, U.S. President Donald Trump on Sunday questioned Moscow's allegation that Ukraine struck one of President Vladimir Putin's residences by drone; Kyiv has denied the accusation as well.

Since Russia's full-scale invasion in February 2022, the conflict has caused large-scale death, destruction and displacement across Ukraine. According to an AFP analysis cited by officials, Russia made notable territorial gains in 2025, the most since the opening year of the offensive.
