The truck, carrying more than 20 tons of rocks, was pushed into a Nissan Maxima and crashed through a concrete wall at an assisted-living facility, landing near patient rooms. Both drivers were hospitalized with non-life-threatening injuries; the Tesla driver was cited and police say impairment is not suspected.

Dash-Cam Captures Violent Wrong-Way Crash on Scottsdale Thoroughfare

A dash-cam recording from Scottsdale, Arizona captured a white Tesla veering across two lanes of traffic and colliding head-on with a dump truck on Cactus Road, in a crash that injured both vehicle operators and caused major property damage.

What Happened

The footage shows the Tesla crossing into the westbound lanes before striking the dump truck in the curb lane. The force of the impact pushed the truck into a nearby Nissan Maxima and then through a concrete block wall attached to an assisted-living facility.

Investigators: "Based on the initial investigation, the driver of the Tesla was originally traveling eastbound on Cactus Road before veering left and driving the wrong way into the westbound lanes of Cactus Road, where it collided head-on with the dump truck in the curb lane. The dump truck then veered left into a Nissan Maxima (sideswipe), which was driving next to it, before continuing south across the eastbound lanes of Cactus Rd into and through the residential wall."

Damage, Injuries and Response

Fox 10 Scottsdale reported the dump truck was hauling more than 20 tons of rocks and created a large hole in the residential wall. The owner of the assisted-living facility described the impact as sounding like an "explosion," saying, "I heard a huge noise, like a bomb. Literally, I call it a bomb." She added that the truck landed within feet of some patients' bedrooms and that she feared it might catch fire, prompting staff to move residents away from the area.

Both the Tesla driver and the dump truck operator were taken to hospital with injuries reported as non-life-threatening. Authorities cited the Tesla driver for driving left of center and failing to control speed to avoid a collision. Police said impairment was not being considered a factor in the crash.
