Centerra Co-op Partners with Black River FFA: Donates Wheat Seed and Shares Fertilizer Costs

Centerra Co-op in Sullivan donated wheat seed and paid half the fertilizer and application costs for winter wheat planted by A.M. Grain Farms at the Black River FFA Land Lab. Cover crops like wheat reduce erosion, improve soil health and increase organic matter while retaining nutrients for the next season. The Land Lab gives FFA members hands-on training in soil conservation, nutrient management and responsible crop production. The FFA thanks Centerra for supporting agricultural education and stewardship.

Centerra Co-op in Sullivan donated wheat seed to the Black River FFA Land Lab this fall and covered half of the fertilizer and application costs for the winter wheat planted by A.M. Grain Farms. The donation supports hands-on agricultural education and sustainable field practices.

Cover crops such as winter wheat play a key role in sustainable farming: they reduce soil erosion, improve soil structure and organic matter, and help retain and recycle nutrients for the next growing season. These benefits contribute to long-term soil health and can reduce the need for additional inputs.

The Land Lab serves as a living classroom where FFA members gain practical, real-world experience in soil conservation, nutrient management, and responsible crop production. By working directly in the field, students translate classroom lessons into stewardship practices that benefit both the land and their communities.

The Black River FFA Chapter thanks Centerra Co-op for its continued support of agricultural education and for helping cultivate the next generation of agricultural leaders through meaningful, field-based learning opportunities.
