Miramar police arrested stylist Shaquille Jaray Palmer on Oct. 2 after luxury handbags belonging to influencer Stormy Wellington were located at an Aventura resale shop. Authorities say Palmer allegedly used or pawned four to five Hermès Birkin bags and defaulted on loans, producing an estimated loss of about $187,360.80. The charge—first-degree grand theft—remains an allegation; court records show the case was filed Oct. 3 and was active at the time of reporting.

A South Florida stylist was arrested after police say luxury items belonging to social media influencer Stormy Wellington—including multiple Hermès Birkin handbags—were traced to a resale shop and used to secure loans.

Who Was Arrested
Shaquille Jaray Palmer, 33, was taken into custody by Miramar police on Oct. 2. Broward County court records show a first-degree grand theft case filed Oct. 3 (case no. 26011817CF10A). The charge is an allegation; the record shows no conviction or final disposition at the time it was filed.

How the Items Were Traced
Wellington reported on Aug. 3 that five Hermès Birkin bags and a Chanel water bottle were missing from her Miramar closet. Her assistant posted on social media seeking help; the bags were later identified after appearing in an Instagram ad posted by Cashing Diamonds, an Aventura luxury-goods business. Employees told detectives Palmer brought the bags to the shop, represented them as his own and used them to secure a loan before defaulting.

What Police Allege
According to the Miramar Police arrest report, business personnel said Palmer pawned or placed on loan a total of four to five Hermès Birkin bags. The report lists an estimated total loss of approximately $187,360.80, which includes five Hermès Birkin bags, a Chanel water bottle and two additional Chanel handbags later reported missing.

Palmer’s Statements to Police
When officers interviewed Palmer, he acknowledged knowing Wellington for about seven years and said he had taken designer handbags to be "serviced and cleaned." He described two groups of bags: one group of four that he said were serviced and returned, and a second group of five he said remained unreturned. Palmer reportedly told detectives those five had been taken with Wellington’s permission about eight to 12 months earlier and claimed they were already serviced and ready for pickup. He also acknowledged the combined retail value exceeded $100,000.

Police say Palmer admitted intentionally withholding the handbags, blaming a "Smear Campaign" that he said damaged his reputation. He declined to answer detailed questions about consigning or pawning the bags without an attorney present. Palmer denied possessing the Chanel water bottle and two additional Chanel handbags Wellington later reported missing.

Mistaken Arrest of Another Man
Before Palmer’s arrest, Miramar police detained 31-year-old Shaquille Grant on Sept. 30 in connection with the same investigation. Grant’s attorney told a judge his client knew nothing about the case. Investigators later determined Grant was not the intended suspect, and prosecutors worked with police to drop the case and secure his release. Officials said a surname discrepancy and a wrong last name on a processing document contributed to the error.

Items and Estimated Values
The arrest report itemizes the original missing property and estimated values as: Red Hermès — $26,450.40; Black Hermès — $35,000; Green Hermès — $26,450.40; Nipsey Blue Hermès — $30,000; Burgundy Python Hermès — $47,460; Chanel water bottle — $9,000. Wellington later reported two additional Chanel handbags (Classic Red and Classic Black) at $6,500 each, bringing the updated estimated loss to $187,360.80.

Legal Context
Under Florida law, theft of property valued at $100,000 or more may be charged as first-degree grand theft, a first-degree felony that carries a statutory maximum penalty of up to 30 years in prison. These are statutory maximums; they are not presumptive sentences. The charge against Palmer remains an allegation pending further court proceedings.

Reported Case Details: Arrest date: Oct. 2; Case filed: Oct. 3; Case no.: 26011817CF10A; Bond reported in local coverage: $150,000.

Police say photographs, video, receipts and other documentation supporting the reported values were uploaded into evidence. Investigations are ongoing.
