A newborn was found on the Menai Strait shoreline near Siliwen Road in Bangor shortly before 17:00 BST on Sunday. North Wales Police and health officials have urged the baby's mother — described as potentially 'extremely vulnerable' — to come forward so she can receive medical care and support. A post-mortem is due on Wednesday and the investigation is being led as Operation Melex. Anyone with information should contact police on 101 or use the Major Incident Public Portal (MIPP).

A newborn baby's body was discovered on the Menai Strait shoreline near Siliwen Road in Bangor shortly before 17:00 BST on Sunday. North Wales Police have launched an investigation and are appealing for the mother to come forward.

Authorities Urge Mother To Seek Help

Fiona Giraud, director of midwifery and women's services at Betsi Cadwaladr University Health Board, issued a direct appeal to the mother:

'Our immediate concern is for your health, safety and wellbeing. We recognise you may be feeling frightened, overwhelmed or unsure about what to do next. We have real concerns for the health of the mother and want to make sure you are safe and receive any medical attention and support you may need.'

Detective Sergeant Kelly Wynne said officers are concerned the mother 'may not be in a position to reach out for support' and asked family members, friends, neighbours and colleagues to come forward with any information. Authorities particularly want to hear from anyone who noticed a woman or girl who appeared to be pregnant or whose behaviour had become withdrawn or out of character in recent months.

Investigation And Next Steps

The force has not released details about the baby's gender or age. A post-mortem examination is scheduled for Wednesday afternoon. The inquiry is being conducted under the name 'Operation Melex' and residents in Bangor may notice an increased police presence while enquiries continue.

Anyone with information is asked to contact North Wales Police on 101, quoting Operation Melex, or to submit information via the Major Incident Public Portal (MIPP).

Those affected by this report may find it distressing. Support services and healthcare professionals are available for anyone who needs help or advice.
