12 Teenagers Wounded in Shooting at Macon Birthday Party; Investigation Ongoing

Twelve teenagers were wounded in a shooting during a birthday gathering at Carolyn Crayton Park in Macon, Georgia, shortly after midnight on Sept. 27, authorities said.
What Happened
Bibb County deputies responded to reports of gunfire near the park's skatepark area at 12:06 a.m., according to a press conference held by Sheriff David Davis and press releases from the Bibb County Sheriff's Office (BCSO). Investigators say a large group in the park and a second group that arrived across the street exchanged words, displayed firearms and then opened fire on one another.
Immediate Response
As deputies were en route, several victims had already arrived at a local hospital in private vehicles. Hospital staff temporarily placed the emergency room on lockdown because of the influx of vehicles, friends and relatives.
Victims and Condition
BCSO reported that all 12 victims are teenagers: one 19-year-old male, four 18-year-old males, five 17-year-old males and two 18-year-old females. Two male victims—a 17-year-old and an 18-year-old—were listed in critical but stable condition; the remaining nine victims were reported as stable.
Investigation Details
Seven vehicles were taken to the crime lab for examination: four that transported victims to the hospital and three left at the park. Investigators also interviewed 10 witnesses at the sheriff's office criminal investigation division. No arrests have been reported, and the probe remains active.
"More details will be released as they become available," the Bibb County Sheriff's Office said.
Background
Sheriff Davis said the gathering was a birthday party for an 18-year-old woman. The group had originally rented an Airbnb in Jones County, but the property owner asked them to leave because of concerning activity. The partygoers then regrouped at Carolyn Crayton Park.
