Two women entered The Flats in Cleveland after closing and became confrontational when staff declined to serve them. A viral TikTok posted on Sept. 19 shows the women allegedly demanding IDs and questioning the employees' immigration status, asking, 'Are you guys, like, illegal?'. Staff repeatedly told them the restaurant was closed, confirmed they were U.S. citizens and instructed the women to leave. The clip has drawn widespread condemnation online, though no police interaction is visible in the footage.

A TikTok video shared by Gaby (@gaby_the_sociologist) captured a tense after-hours encounter at The Flats, a restaurant in Cleveland, Ohio. The clip — viewed more than 3.2 million times — shows two women entering the closed venue, asking for service and then allegedly launching into racially charged questioning when employees declined.

What Happened

According to the video posted on Sept. 19, staff were finishing closing duties when the two women attempted to place orders and requested the Wi‑Fi password. Employees politely explained the restaurant was closed and that they could not provide food or access. The footage shows stools flipped upside down on tables, a clear sign the venue was closed.

Instead of leaving, one woman repeatedly demanded to see identification and questioned whether the employees 'work here.' She then pressed about nationality and immigration status, asking, 'Do you guys have, like, American passports?' and later, 'Are you guys, like, illegal?'

Staff responded minimally, reiterating the restaurant was closed and telling the women to leave. At one point, a server warned she would call security; the woman challenged that response by saying she was 'an American citizen' and asking whether the staff were U.S. citizens. The employees confirmed they were citizens and again instructed the women to depart.

Response And Context

Viewers condemned the women's alleged behavior in the video's comments, criticizing the use of immigration and nationality as an insult and disputing attempts to excuse the conduct as alcohol-related. Some commenters noted that widely shared incidents like this have previously led to professional consequences for those involved.

The clip does not show any interaction with police, and it is unclear what happened to one of the women after the encounter. The video highlights the kinds of unpredictable, often hostile situations service workers may face while closing a shift and the emotional labor required to defuse them.

Note: The allegations are based on what appears in the TikTok clip; the full context and any follow-up actions are not shown in the footage.
