Racing commentator John Hunt has completed a 120‑mile (190km) charity walk from his home in Hertfordshire to Bournemouth in Dorset to honour his wife, Carol, and daughters, Louise and Hannah, who were killed in July 2024.

The Walk And Its Purpose

Hunt set off on 19 September accompanied by his daughter Amy, his sister Alison and Amy's fiancé, Gareth. The group aimed to mark the family’s love of Bournemouth while raising funds for the Hunt Family Fund, which John and Amy established after the killings to support organisations tackling violence against women and other causes important to the family.

The walkers averaged around 13 miles (19km) a day, stopping in towns including Windsor and through the New Forest before arriving on the Dorset coast. Their challenge has so far raised more than £90,000 for the fund.

Arrival In Bournemouth

Elated, exhausted, sad – all the emotions have surfaced this week. The fact that it rained heavily on our arrival into Bournemouth mattered not, it was a case of trainers off and into the sea!

Reflecting on the journey, Hunt described an emotional mix of laughter, grief and mutual support. He said the walk often mirrored life itself: moments when the group felt they could not continue were followed by encouragement and revived spirits.

Emotionally, as you can imagine, things have been very up and down. We’ve had loads of laughter between the four of us… We’ve had really sad moments, we’ve had really difficult moments as well when we’ve thought we can’t go on, then you help each other to pull round.

Background And Fund

Police say the women were killed at the family home in Bushey, Hertfordshire, in July 2024. Kyle Clifford, Louise’s former partner, has been accused of the killings. The Hunt Family Fund will support groups working to prevent violence against women and champion causes that reflected the values and passions of Carol, Louise and Hannah.

The family have expressed gratitude for public support and donations. They say the walk was intended both to grieve and to celebrate the lives and memories of their loved ones.
