The IDF and Israel Police have reinforced forces across the West Bank ahead of holiday travel, anticipating hundreds of thousands of Israelis visiting sites across the area. Lt.-Gen. Eyal Zamir ordered additional battalions and faster air-response measures, and reassigned the Judea and Etzion sectors to the 98th Division under Brig.-Gen. Meni Liberty. There are roughly 24 battalions currently active versus more than 40 after Operation Defensive Shield. Authorities reported no specific imminent threats but authorized regional commanders to impose localized restrictions if needed; a separate Nablus operation led to seizures and arrests.
IDF Bolsters West Bank Deployment Ahead Of Holiday Travel Amid Attack Fears

The Israel Defense Forces (IDF) and Israel Police have reinforced their presence across the West Bank ahead of the upcoming holiday period, when authorities expect hundreds of thousands of Israelis to visit nature sites, prayer locations and public events throughout the area.
Heightened Posture And Orders
Lt.-Gen. Eyal Zamir, IDF Chief of Staff, ordered a series of precautionary measures aimed at shortening response times and strengthening protection at known gathering points. Measures include reinforcing the Judea and Samaria Division with additional combat battalions, accelerating Israel Air Force reaction protocols, and preparing forces to respond to fast-developing incidents.
Command And Sector Changes
Zamir reassigned responsibility for the Judea and Etzion Brigade sectors — with special emphasis on the seam line with Jerusalem — to the 98th Division, commanded by Brig.-Gen. Meni Liberty, former commander of the Commando Brigade. Military officials said the move is intended to ease the workload on the Judea and Samaria Division headquarters as operations are reinforced.
Troop Levels And Threat Assessment
Current estimates place roughly 24 battalions operating in the West Bank, compared with more than 40 battalions after Operation Defensive Shield. Central Command officials emphasized that there are no specific, actionable warnings of imminent attacks at this stage, but they remain alert to both organized militant networks and the risk posed by lone attackers.
Local Restrictions And Policing
No blanket movement restrictions for Palestinians have been imposed across the West Bank. However, Maj.-Gen. Avi Bluth, Central Command chief, has authorized regional brigade commanders to decide whether to implement local roadblocks or other temporary measures in their sectors based on friction between communities, unusual incidents, or specific intelligence warnings. Beginning Saturday evening, Israel Police and Border Police units in the Judea and Samaria District will raise their alert level along major roads, at known friction points and at popular nature sites.
Intelligence Operation In Nablus
Separately, police intelligence activity in the Nablus sector uncovered manufacturing equipment and weapons components, including 10 lathes, an improvised weapon, M-16 rifle parts and other military gear. Two Palestinians were arrested on suspicion of possessing and manufacturing weapons during that operation.
