US President Donald Trump said on Friday that Russia has been targeting Ukraine's allies for years, remarks made as Poland raised concerns about possible strikes on countries that support Kyiv.
At the White House, Trump responded to a reporter's question by saying,
"They've been attacking Ukrainian allies for approximately five years."
He added:
"I think everyone agrees with it."Trump did not provide further details about those attacks or cite specific incidents.
Polish Prime Minister Donald Tusk told lawmakers on Thursday that he expects Russian attacks on Ukraine and its supporters to intensify in the coming weeks. According to the PAP news agency, Polish intelligence assessments indicate there could be strikes that seem accidental — carried out with drones or missiles — against countries providing aid to Ukraine, including Poland.
Earlier this month Trump had downplayed the likelihood of a Russian attack on NATO territory after Germany attributed an attempted drone attack at Leipzig airport to Moscow. At the time Trump said,
"I speak to him. I know him very well. [President Vladimir] Putin's not looking to attack NATO territory."
Officials in Warsaw and allied capitals continue to monitor the situation closely, while public statements from leaders highlight growing concerns about spillover risks as the conflict in Ukraine persists.
