Terrifying footage circulating online shows passengers screaming as violent shaking tore ceiling panels loose inside a Boeing 737 during an emergency return to Mashhad, Iran.
What Happened
Iranian officials say the domestic Sepehran Airlines flight, en route from Mashhad to Kermanshah, experienced separation of the outer layer of a landing-gear tire during takeoff. According to Hassan Jafari, public relations director for airports in Razavi Khorasan province, the pilot then reported an engine emergency and diverted the aircraft back to Mashhad.
Onboard Damage And Passenger Safety
The viral video appears to show sections of the cabin ceiling collapsing into the aisle and exposing internal fixtures while passengers brace against their seats; some people can be heard crying out as the aircraft shook. Authorities say all passengers evacuated the aircraft safely and were later sent to Kermanshah on a replacement flight; no injuries were reported. Airport operations resumed after the scene was secured and the runway reopened.
Hassan Jafari told state-run IRNA that passengers left the aircraft safely and that investigations are ongoing.
Screengrabs published alongside the footage show the damaged interior before the jet completed its diversion. Newsweek has not independently verified the video and has contacted Sepehran Airlines for comment.
