The Arrest and Charges
The Thurston County Narcotics Task Force had been investigating a convicted felon from Kent who investigators say was distributing fentanyl and cocaine into Thurston County. Authorities arrested the suspect on Sept. 2 while search warrants were being executed at multiple locations in King County.
The suspect was also wanted in King County on allegations connected to second-degree rape, kidnapping and unlawful imprisonment. Thurston County Sheriff Derek Sanders announced the arrest two days later and posted photos of the seizure. The man was booked into the King County Jail on multiple allegations, including second-degree rape, kidnapping, unlawful imprisonment, possession with intent to deliver fentanyl and cocaine while armed, and four counts of unlawful possession of a firearm.
What Authorities Seized
Officials reported seizing large quantities of suspected drugs and related evidence: 387 grams of fentanyl and 1,902 grams (about 1.9 kg) of cocaine. Law enforcement also seized four firearms, approximately $16,000 in cash, gold jewelry and the three vehicles shown in the evidence photo — the C8 Corvette, the Chevrolet Monte Carlo and a Freightliner tow truck.
Seized Property And Forfeiture Process
Seized does not automatically mean available for sale. Under Washington's controlled-substances forfeiture law, vehicles used or intended to facilitate certain illegal drug transactions may be subject to forfeiture. People asserting an ownership or possessory interest in seized personal property have a statutory right to contest the forfeiture.
Anyone claiming an interest in seized property must file a claim within 60 days after notice of the seizure is served. If the forfeiture is contested, the law-enforcement agency must prove the property is subject to forfeiture by clear, cogent and convincing evidence. Property ultimately forfeited may be retained for official use or sold.
Thurston County says Narcotics Task Force auctions of seized property are conducted through Black Lake Towing. However, legal challenges and procedural requirements can delay or prevent specific items from becoming available at auction.
