Former White House communications director Anthony Scaramucci has renewed public remarks about the marriage of President Donald Trump and first lady Melania Trump, saying the couple’s relationship appears to be “distant” and suggesting they may even be living separately.
Speaking on The Daily Beast podcast, Scaramucci contrasted Trump’s second term with his first and argued that Melania’s reduced public profile may have lessened her moderating influence on the president. Scaramucci, who served for 11 days as communications director during Trump’s first administration, said that when Melania was more engaged she sometimes told Trump to “tone it down” — and that he would listen to her.
“When she was more friendly with him, she would tell him to tone it down and he would actually listen to her,” Scaramucci said. “There’s very few people that Trump listens to.”
Describing their relationship as “distant,” Scaramucci added: “I think it’s distant for a number of different reasons. But I think they probably have grown apart.” He did not provide independent evidence to support claims that the couple are living separately.
