Betsy Klein, a CNN reporter who has been barred from the White House, told CNN’s OutFront that Melania Trump was aware of former President Donald Trump’s ban on several news outlets but nonetheless authorized CNN to cover her arrival at the United Nations General Assembly.

According to Klein, the First Lady’s office accepted credentials for CNN even while the larger White House policy excluded outlets such as CNN, MSNBC and Politico from certain White House access. Melania accompanied the former president to the General Assembly, where Trump reportedly noticed CNN’s Kaitlan Collins covering the event and questioned her presence.
CNN commentator Brian Stelter later posted on X that Melania’s office had "approved" the network to photograph and report on her arrival.
