Attempted Murder Investigation After Van Deliberately Driven At Two Police Officers In Larkhall

Police in South Lanarkshire have launched an attempted murder investigation after a white Renault Trafic van was deliberately driven at two officers in Larkhall on Saturday afternoon.

Officers were carrying out inquiries at a property on Glen Avenue at about 14:10 when the vehicle was driven towards them. The two male officers, aged 43 and 41, were taken to hospital with serious injuries; one has been discharged while the other remains in hospital receiving treatment.

The van was later recovered in Kirkstyle Place, Glassford, and there were no reports of any other injuries.

The suspect is described as a white male, about 6ft tall, wearing dark shorts, a grey jumper and a beige baseball cap. Police are asking anyone who was in the area, or who has dashcam or doorbell footage from Glen Avenue, Larkhall or Kirkstyle Place around the time of the incident, to come forward.

Police Response

Ch Insp Paul Doyle described the attack as "deliberate and despicable" and said violence was not "part of the job for police officers" and "will not be tolerated." He added that detectives are working to trace the person responsible and that the injured officers will be given "all the necessary support."

Additional patrols have been deployed in the area and officers are speaking to members of the public. Anyone with information or concerns is encouraged to contact Police Scotland.
