Nara Organics Recalls All Infant Formula Lots After Three Infant Botulism Cases

Nara Organics has voluntarily recalled all lots of its Whole Milk Powdered Infant Formula after U.S. health authorities linked three infant botulism cases to the product. The company initiated the recall after the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) and the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) notified it on June 12, 2026 that investigators found a connection between the formula and the illnesses.

What Happened

The affected infants were hospitalized in April and May in California, Washington and Pennsylvania. They were between 2 and 5 months old and each received BabyBIG, the antitoxin used to treat infant botulism; no deaths have been reported. Nara identified the lots consumed by the affected infants as 709125280E14F2, 709125288E14F2 and 708125174E14F2. Although laboratory testing has not detected Clostridium botulinum in sampled lots, the company removed all product currently on the U.S. market out of an abundance of caution.

Distribution And Availability

The recalled formula was sold nationwide at Target stores, on Target.com and on Nara.com between July 2025 and June 2026. The product is manufactured in Europe but marketed only in the United States. According to the FDA, Nara Organics represents less than 1% of the U.S. infant formula market, and the recall is not expected to have a meaningful impact on the national formula supply.

Health Risks And Symptoms

Infant botulism is rare but can be serious. It occurs when an infant ingests C. botulinum spores that germinate in the gut and produce a toxin that damages the nervous system. Early symptoms may include constipation, poor feeding, decreased movement, a weak or unusual cry, drooping eyelids, difficulty swallowing and breathing problems. Untreated cases can progress to respiratory failure and may require extended hospitalization.

What Caregivers Should Do

• Stop using the product immediately.
• Mark any remaining formula "Do Not Use" and keep it separate from other foods; state health authorities may need to collect samples for testing.
• If an infant consumed the formula and shows any symptoms listed above, contact a healthcare provider right away or seek emergency care.

Refunds And Returns

Nara Organics said it will automatically refund customers who purchased from Nara.com in May and June 2026. Other customers can request refunds through the company's website. Target customers may return the product at Target stores or via Target's online return process.

Note: This recall follows a separate infant botulism outbreak linked to ByHeart formula less than a year earlier. The FDA reported that the ByHeart outbreak involved roughly 48 illnesses, 28 of them confirmed.
