Derbyshire Police has opened a criminal investigation after an officer was accused of using artificial intelligence (AI) systems to generate evidential material across multiple cases. The force has removed the officer from frontline duties while inquiries continue. No arrests have been made so far.
Investigation Under Way
The allegation is that the officer may have perverted the course of justice by creating or altering evidential material using AI tools. Derbyshire Police said the inquiry is at an early stage and the force is working closely with the Crown Prosecution Service (CPS) to identify any potentially affected cases.

A CPS spokesperson added: "As police inquiries continue, it would not be appropriate to comment further."

The announcement comes in the same week that PoliceAI, a new national centre for AI in policing, was launched to support the responsible adoption of AI technologies across UK law enforcement.
