Investigators recovered a Glock 9mm and cartridge casings and believe multiple weapons were used. Two suspects remain at large, and authorities are asking anyone with doorbell or security footage to come forward as the probe continues.
A shooting at a house party in Amarillo, Texas, left two teenagers dead and at least 10 others wounded in the early hours of May 2, authorities said. The incident occurred at an apartment complex on South Coulter Street after a gathering moved from another location.
According to a statement from the Amarillo Police Department (APD), shots were fired at about 2 a.m. local time. Investigators say several people who had been asked to leave the original gathering followed some partygoers to the apartment complex, where they "attempted to enter an apartment and opened fire using a rifle-style weapon."
Police released home security footage captured near the scene that shows multiple people running across the property as dozens of shots ring out. APD identified one of the deceased as 17-year-old Ezekiel Rudy Almazan and said the other victim was a 16-year-old boy whose name has not been released. At least 10 additional people suffered injuries, several of them from gunfire.
Officers recovered a Glock 9mm handgun on a landing outside an apartment unit. Investigators also found cartridge casings in an alley south of the complex and believe multiple weapons were used.
Police said two suspects remain unidentified and at large. While their exact relationship to the victims is "unknown," APD officials described the shooting as appearing to be a targeted attack. In a May 2 statement, Amarillo Police Chief Thomas Hover said investigators had determined the suspects "have an affiliation with the targeted location and were known to one of the occupants at the party."
Authorities are urging anyone with doorbell-camera or other security footage from the area, or who witnessed unusual activity, to share it with investigators. The department said the investigation is ongoing and that more information will be released as it becomes available.
Note: Out of respect for the deceased and their families, one victim under 18 has not been named by authorities.
