Budapest, April 20 — Peter Magyar, the winner of Hungary's recent election, renewed a call on Monday for President Tamas Sulyok and senior judges to resign by May 31 or face formal removal from office. Magyar said Sulyok is supported by Prime Minister Viktor Orban's Fidesz party and characterized the targeted officials as "Orban's puppets."
Speaking at a news conference, Magyar gave a clear deadline for voluntary resignations and warned that after May 31 he will use his mandate and available legal mechanisms to seek their removal if they remain in office. "May 31 is the deadline until when they can submit their resignation. After then, we will live with our mandate and legal possibilities to remove them from office," he said.
"We expect the resignation of Orban's puppets," Magyar told reporters.
The demand escalates political tensions as Hungary's new leadership signals an intention to act swiftly against officials seen as aligned with the previous government. The comments were reported by Reuters.
