The Pitt County Sheriff’s Office says deputies responded at 3:16 a.m. on Feb. 11, 2026, to a reported assault at 200 Louis Street in the Cherry Oaks neighborhood. Upon arrival, investigators determined the call involved a home invasion and called in detectives from the Major Crimes and Forensic Services units.

Suspects and Arrests
Authorities identified the suspects two days after the incident as 20-year-old Jonathan David Garcia-Lario, described in booking records as homeless, and 21-year-old Zaid Mayen of Chapel Hill. Law enforcement recovered evidence tied to the case at an apartment in Chapel Hill, which officials said is roughly two hours from Greenville.

Charges

Custody and Agency Involvement
The U.S. Marshals Service assisted in locating and apprehending the suspects, and the Chapel Hill Police Department participated in the operation. The Department of Homeland Security was notified and Immigration and Customs Enforcement placed detainers on both individuals, indicating ICE may assume custody at a later time.
Booking records show Garcia-Lario was first held at the Franklin County Detention Center without bond and was later transferred to the Pitt County Detention Center, where he remains without bond. Mayen was initially booked at the Orange County Detention Center and is also held without bond.
