The Trump administration appealed a judge's order that had required the Transportation Department to unfreeze federal funding for the $16 billion Hudson Tunnel Project in New York. The appeal, filed on Sunday according to court documents, asks a higher court to review the judge's directive. No timetable for the appellate review was provided in the filing. The Hudson Tunnel Project would add a new rail tunnel under the Hudson River connecting New Jersey and New York.

Feb. 8 (Reuters) — The Trump administration on Sunday filed an appeal against a federal judge's order that had required the U.S. Transportation Department to unfreeze federal funding for the $16 billion Hudson Tunnel Project in New York, according to a court filing.

The appeal asks a higher court to overturn or stay the judge's directive that the department release funds for the project, which would build a new rail tunnel under the Hudson River linking New Jersey and New York. The administration argues the lower-court order was improper; the filing provides the legal basis for the challenge.

Details about the timetable for the appeal or an expected decision by an appellate court were not included in the filing. The project has been a high-profile infrastructure priority because of its cost and significance to regional rail traffic.
