Keith Roberts Jr., 29, has been charged with murder and attempted murder after authorities say he shot his ex-girlfriend, Myshaela Burnham, point-blank at her workplace on Jan. 15 and critically wounded co-worker Summer Freitag. The affidavit says Roberts admitted thinking about killing Burnham for years and called the shooting his "breaking point," adding he would still kill her if given the chance. Burnham died instantly; Freitag survived multiple gunshot wounds and was hospitalized. Roberts was arrested the same day, is held without bail, and is due for arraignment on Feb. 13.
'He Would Still Kill Her': Man Accused Of Killing Ex-Girlfriend At Work, Wounding Co-Worker

A Florida man has been charged with murder and attempted murder after police say he fatally shot his ex-girlfriend at her workplace and critically wounded a co-worker on Jan. 15. The newly unsealed probable cause affidavit obtained by PEOPLE details the attack and the suspect's statements to investigators.
Details Of The Shooting
Bradenton police identified the suspect as 29-year-old Keith Roberts Jr. According to the affidavit, Roberts returned to the office and shot 29-year-old Myshaela Burnham point-blank in the face with a 12-gauge shotgun; Burnham died instantly. Roberts then allegedly fired at Burnham's co-worker, Summer Freitag, striking her four times with a .40-caliber pistol. Freitag was rushed to the hospital in critical condition and later survived.
Investigation And Suspect's Statements
Roberts allegedly fled the scene but was arrested later the same day. After being read his Miranda rights, the affidavit states he agreed to speak with investigators. He told police he had thought about killing Burnham for at least two years because of their volatile relationship and that the couple had split in August 2015, a separation he attributed to jealousy and domestic violence.
According to the affidavit, Roberts said the day's two-hour conversation with Burnham led him to the conclusion they would not reunite and that was his "breaking point." He allegedly told investigators, "even if he could do today over again he would still kill Burnham."
The affidavit also notes Roberts could not explain why he shot Freitag. At times he appeared apologetic and acknowledged making a "horrible decision," but he maintained he would not change his actions if given another chance.
Victims And Aftermath
Burnham, who leaves behind a young son, was remembered by family as "a bright light in every life she touched," according to a GoFundMe page created to help support her child. Freitag survived her wounds and was hospitalized in critical condition; further updates about her recovery were not included in the affidavit.
Legal Status
Roberts is charged with murder and attempted murder, is being held without bail, and is scheduled to be arraigned on Feb. 13. His attorney did not respond to requests for comment, and the Bradenton Police Department provided the information contained in the affidavit obtained by PEOPLE.
