The Chelsea, Michigan Police Department is asking for the public’s help after what appears to be a human skull was discovered among donations at a Goodwill drop-off on Jan. 26.
An officer responded to the 1100 block of S. Main Street after staff reported a suspicious item among recent donations. According to the department, the item was wrapped in a shirt when it was found.
On-scene findings: The responding officer took possession of the object and noted that it showed no visible damage or any holes inconsistent with normal bone anatomy. The item was later transferred to the county medical examiner’s office for further examination and confirmation.
"The case remains open pending further investigation to determine the circumstances and origin of the item," the Chelsea Police Department said.
Police have released surveillance images of a woman seen at the Goodwill location on Jan. 26 who donated several items that day. Authorities say one of the donated items may have been included unintentionally, and they want to speak with her to confirm what was donated and how it came to be at the drop-off.
How to help: Anyone with information about the woman's identity or the origin of the item is asked to contact the Chelsea Police Department's non-emergency line at 734-475-9122, ext. 3. Investigators say further updates will depend on the medical examiner’s findings and any leads that come in through the tip line.
