Neighbor Says Teen Told Her “He Killed Her” — Oklahoma Mom Found Dead in Trash Bin; One Son Charged

A Logan County neighbor grew alarmed after seeing two teenage adoptive brothers fighting in their backyard and realizing their mother had not been seen for several days. After intervening and separating the teens, the neighbor said one boy accused the other of killing their mother, prompting a 911 call.
Officers who responded to the home in the Cascata Falls neighborhood on Wednesday, Jan. 28, discovered the body of 49-year-old Spring Weems inside the family’s trash bin, authorities told local outlets News 9, KFOR and KOCO.
Investigation and Charges
Following an on-scene investigation and interviews with the two boys and the neighbor, authorities arrested one of the adoptive sons and charged him with first-degree murder. The other adoptive son was placed in the Canadian County Juvenile Detention Center, local reports said. News outlets indicate the teen charged is a high school freshman.
“This is just a terrible case. Nobody deserves to die as this woman did,” Oklahoma State Bureau of Investigation spokesperson Hunter McKee told News 9.
McKee said investigators are still working to determine the precise motive and circumstances that led to Weems’s death. Officials have reported that she sustained injuries consistent with homicide but released few additional public details as the probe continues.
Community Reaction
The alleged killing has left the close-knit Central Oklahoma neighborhood shocked and grieving. Neighbors described the scene as traumatic and said something like this had not happened in their area. One friend, who was not identified by KOCO, said Weems was known for going “above and beyond for the cause.”
“Disbelief, just shattered, heartbroken — a lot of the people here in the neighborhood just can’t believe it,” neighbor Garland Hall told News 9. “I would ask everyone to pray. Pray for that family and particularly because they’re shattered and just pray to God that he would comfort us during this time.”
Authorities continue to investigate and have not released further details pending ongoing inquiries and juvenile confidentiality rules. The case remains under active investigation by local law enforcement and the Oklahoma State Bureau of Investigation.
