The U.S. State Department has approved a potential $2.3 billion foreign military sale to Singapore for maritime patrol and reconnaissance aircraft, lightweight torpedoes and related equipment, the Pentagon said on Tuesday. Boeing is named as the principal contractor. The authorization advances the sale through the U.S. approval process but the deal remains subject to final agreements and possible congressional review.

The U.S. State Department has authorized a potential foreign military sale to Singapore that would provide maritime patrol and reconnaissance aircraft along with lightweight torpedoes and associated equipment in a package valued at an estimated $2.3 billion, the Pentagon said on Tuesday.

The Pentagon identified Boeing as the principal contractor for the proposed deal. The authorization marks a formal step in the U.S. foreign military sales process but does not finalize the transaction.

What the Package Includes

The proposed sale covers:
- Maritime patrol and reconnaissance aircraft
- Lightweight torpedoes
- Related support equipment and services

Next Steps and Context

Authorization by the State Department allows the sale to move forward to subsequent approvals and contract negotiations. The proposal remains subject to final agreements, export controls and any applicable congressional review under U.S. arms transfer procedures.

Officials said the proposed deal would deepen defense cooperation between the United States and Singapore and enhance Singapore's maritime surveillance and anti-submarine capabilities in the region.
