Authorities and family members are searching for 24-year-old Sydney Marquez, who was last seen on Dec. 11 while visiting friends in Houston. Her disappearance has prompted concern because family members say she has a mental health diagnosis and had recently stopped taking prescribed medication.
What We Know
According to a bulletin from the Houston Police Department’s Missing Persons Unit shared by the Texas Center for the Missing, Marquez was last observed on the 9100 block of Bellaire Boulevard. Her car was found abandoned along Bellaire Boulevard on the evening of Dec. 11 with the keys still inside, and her cellphone was left at the scene—something relatives describe as out of character.
"It’s been a nightmare ever since we found out my daughter was missing. It’s been tough for the whole family," Raul Marquez, Sydney’s father, told local media.
Raul Marquez said his daughter was diagnosed about a year ago with late-onset bipolar schizophrenia and that she had recently not been consistently taking her medication, which family members say affected her behavior. The family has traveled from El Paso to Houston to assist with the search.
He believes Sydney may have boarded a METRO bus the night she disappeared, but the family reported the bus’s camera system was not functioning properly at the time.

The Houston Police Department describes Sydney Marquez as a Hispanic woman, approximately 5-foot-4 and about 120 pounds, with brown eyes and red hair. She was last seen wearing a grey hoodie and pants, a beige shirt and white tennis shoes.
