Authorities say foul play may be a factor in the disappearance of 35-year-old Danielle Staley, who was last seen near Rio Del Mar State Beach in Santa Cruz County on the night of Nov. 6.
What we know
Staley was last observed at approximately 11:23 p.m. on Nov. 6. The following day, personal items belonging to Staley were found on the beach, but she was not located. Law enforcement has described her as "at risk" and has indicated they suspect foul play.
Statements and investigation
Alx Nunez, Staley's boyfriend, says he reported her missing the morning after she did not return to the camper van they were traveling in. He told investigators he remained at the campsite while Staley went to a nearby bonfire and has denied any involvement in her disappearance. Nunez has publicly offered to take a polygraph or other tests to assist the investigation.
"I will take a polygraph test. I would take any kind of tests you want," Nunez said.
The sheriff's office has stated that Nunez is not being treated as a suspect at this time. Investigators have asked the public for any surveillance or video footage from the Rio Del Mar area spanning Nov. 5 through Nov. 7 that might help establish Staley's movements.
Family reaction and description
Staley's mother, April Miller, says the disappearance is out of character: her daughter normally keeps in close contact with family and would not intentionally cut off communication. "If she has gone missing," Miller said, "I feel that she would have done everything in her power to get a call out to one of us to let us know that she was OK."
The sheriff's office provided a physical description: Staley is about 5 feet 6 inches tall and weighs approximately 120 pounds, with blonde hair. When last seen she was wearing a dark hooded sweatshirt and leopard-print leggings.
