Fact Check: Viral Parody Claimed Roblox Would Shut Down on Jan. 1 — False
Lead Stories says: Parody

Claim: A screenshot said Roblox would shut down on January 1. Verdict: False — the post came from a parody account and not from official company channels. Evidence: The image included misspellings, the source account is labeled as parody, Google News showed no reports, and the company newsroom had no announcement.

A viral screenshot claimed the company behind the Roblox game would "shut down on January 1st." This is false. The message originated from a social account that clearly identifies itself as a parody and did not appear on the company’s official channels or in news reporting.

What happened

The image and claim were shared in a post on X on December 16, 2025 by an account named @RobloxNoobifier. The post’s caption read:

NEWS: Roblox is Shutting Down On January 1st

The image embedded in the post contained the following text (verbatim):

Official AnnouncmentAfter careful consideration we have decided to shut down the platform. This is due to us not keeping our promise of keeping the platform safe and to avoid us losing money. We understand that this decsion may be difficult for you but we know it is the best option..We want to thank you all for playing and connecting on the platform. On January 1st 2026 the platform will not longer operate

Why the claim is false

There are several clear indicators the message is not genuine:

  • The image contains multiple spelling errors (for example, "Announcment" and "decsion"), which is uncommon for official corporate communications.
  • The X account @RobloxNoobifier lists itself as a parody in its bio and header, stating it posts parody Roblox news. The account explicitly displays a "Parody account" label.
  • A Google News search for terms such as "roblox", "january 1st" and "shutting down" returned no news reports corroborating a shutdown.
  • At the time of writing there was no shutdown notice on the company’s official newsroom or corporate communication channels.

Bottom line

The screenshot came from a parody account and there was no official announcement or independent news coverage verifying any shutdown. Treat the claim as a hoax and rely on the company’s verified newsroom or official social accounts for confirmed updates.
